Better late than never!!!!
10. Girls – Lust for Life
Pure pop goodness. I am not going to lie, it was hard for me to pick my favorite song because they are all the fucking same! But that’s ok, if you like one song, you’ll like the whole record :)
9. Fuck Buttons – Solar Surf
Without a doubt my favorite experimental album of the year.
8. Lady Gaga – Bad Romance
I feel like I am going to get a lot of flak for this one. This is absolutely the best pop record of the year and one of the best of all time. At the time of posting, Bad Romance has almost 90MM views on Youtube. Lady Gaga is ridiculous and awesome, plus I kinda feel like I would be friends with her if we randomly met, which I have never said about any celebrity before.
7. La Roux – Quicksand
I didn’t get into La Roux until the end of year, but it’s still in heavy rotation on the ipod.
6. Phoenix – Lisztomania
I listened to this record in waves ever since it was leaked. I’d obsessively play it until I burnt out, take a break and do it again. I feel like this was the soundtrack of brooklyn 2009 spring.
5. Ólafur Arnalds – Ljósið’
So beautiful. This was my focus music for 2009. I guess the first time that I listened to it, I was so inspired that was able to write an entire essay in one sitting. Ever since, whenever I have trouble concentrating, I put it on.
4. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart – Young Adult Friction
I feel a little silly admitting this, but I think that Eric and I saw PoBPaH like ten times in the first few months of the year!
3. Animal Collective – My Girls
The Prospect Park show was one of the best shows of the year. If you want a better description of why Merriweather Post Pavillion is one of the best records of the year, then just read ANY freakin music blog out there!
2. Hjaltalín – Traffic Music
My favorite Icelandic band of the year! The songs are so climactic, it’s almost like watching theatre. I love the strings and the oboe and the falsetto; the entire record in GREAT; I especially love Goodbye July / Margt ad Ugga!!
1. Lost in Trees – All Alone in an Empty House
This album haunts me. The entire record in AMAZING. I almost want to take a trip to North Carolina just to see them, since they don’t ever appear to play in NYC!!!!!!!!!!!!
Without a doubt, my favorite three shows of the year were:
Dan Deacon at Bowery Ballroom
Sin Fang Bous at Le Poisson Rouge
Why? at Le Poisson Rouge
